Big Apple Greeter

What a great idea. Big Apple greeter is an organisation of volunteers that are willing to show visitors to the Big Apple around. Or as the website describes the service:

"Big Apple Greeter
is a non-profit organization that matches visitors with friendly and enthusiastic New Yorkers who are happy to share the city they love. A wonderful experience for families, friends and individuals traveling solo, Greeters help travelers feel welcome and get more from their stay in the Big Apple.

Big Apple Greeter’s services are offered FREE OF CHARGE, and there is a NO TIPPING POLICY."

Now that is a great idea!

Forgotten New York

Great website about the forgotten parts of New York City. The site gives information and a virtual tour of forgotten neighborhoods and various other things such as old street lights, murals, cobblestoned streets and more. It also links to the website of the Forgotten Tours were you can sign up for non-virtual tours.

The picture shows a store-front in Hunters Point (Queens). One of the forgotten neighborhoods featured on the website. (click picture to launch website).

Polanoid

Click on the picture to launch a great website called Polanoid. This is what the creators of the website have to say about it:

POLANOID was invented because the magic of Polaroid pictures, the thrilling Edwin Land story and the charm and touch of Polaroid cameras hit us like a sledge hammer.

Hungry for real analog, good smelling pictures in a digital world, we decided to swim against the stream and to reset our focus and start the biggest, best and most instant online photo community ever. Stuffed with millions of Polaroids, collected and uploaded by Polaroid addicts all over the planet.

The New Yorker Cover

Englishman in L.A.

Today an overrated Englishman (Beckham) is expected to kickstart soccer in the US. In the seventies it was Pele, the best soccer-player ever, who came to New York to play for the Cosmos.

The clip shows both the glamour and the soccer skills of the great man.
